MM5 Simulation of transport patterns during a typical Middle-East summer ozone period (MS Defense)
By Mr. Shoukri Kasakseh, Department of Meteorology, SJSU
ABSTRACT:
The study used MM5(a mesoscale meteorological model)to simulate summertime large-scale and mesoscale meteorological conditions over the West bank, Gaza Strip, and Israel. The period was selected because airborne observations showed near-episode ozone concentrations above Jerusalem. Analysis of available observed meteorological-data and weather charts was first carried out to understand upper level and surface pollutant transport-patterns. MM5 generally was able to simulate the development and movement of the large scale and mesoscale thermal circulations that dominated observed ozone transport processes.
